Diamond stone is from the Greek word 'adamas' meaning unconquerable, it is a clear crystalline form of pure carbon, which is the hardest naturally occurring substance on earth. It is a valuable precious gemstone with a hardness and high dispersion of light that has made it a treasured gemstone for centuries diamonds can be found at the earth’s lithosphere, which lies approximately 90-240 miles, where carbon element is subjected to extremely high pressures and temperatures.

Diamond mines are located in Angola, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Lesotho. Asian mines operate in Russia and India. Both Canada and the U.S. operate mines in North America, and Australia mines diamonds at three separate locations. Crater of Diamonds State Park, located in the state of Arkansas.

In human history the largest diamond ever found was on January 25, 1905, at the Premier Mine in Pretoria, South Africa, a 3,106-carat diamond weighing 1.33 pounds, named "Cullinan" also know as 'Star of Africa' which afterwards has been cut into hundreds of different pieces.

We typically perceived diamonds merely as a jewel though for upper social class its a status symbol of wealth, beauty, elegance, and it always hold a nostalgia like the story happened with 'Hope Diamond', reason each diamond is considered unique and rare as flawless.

Value of each diamond can vary from its four C's:

Cut: most popular diamond cut is round and most expensive among other fancy diamond cuts like princess, oval, marquise, pear, cushion, emerald, asscher, radiant, and heart these shapes are 25 percent less in price compare to a round cut.

Color: its graded by Gemological Institute of America (GIA), scale from D to Z, D is the most valued due its colorless, and Z for the cheapest or light yellow in contrast.

Carat: diamond's weight. Price per carat increases exponentially with the increase in weight. For example, the value of a one carat diamond will be greater than two half carat diamonds of same quality.

Clarity: refers to the absence of inclusions and blemishes of diamonds without these birthmarks are rare and rarity affects a diamond’s value. None are absolutely perfect under 10× magnification those that come close are known as internally flawless (IF) diamonds, highest in value.

So we did calculation price example for a round shape diamond, half carat in weight, D the clearest in color, and IF in clarity its total price is US$3,901.50

Also being knowledgeable about the diamond your buying not only by its value, also its origin to avoid buying 'blood diamonds' or unethically mined diamonds such as from Democratic Republic of the Congo, Angola, Côte d’Ivoire, Zimbabwe, and Sierra Leone these places are currently in a war zone, sold to finance armed confrontation, smuggling, and forced child labor.

Here we listed five practical methods to avoid unethically mined diamonds:

1) Canadian diamonds are tracked through a multi-pronged approach including CanadaMark, the Government of Northwest Territories, and the Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct. Most of Canadian diamonds are laser-inscribed with tracking numbers, making their origin even more traceable. You can verify it in writing with your jeweler that your diamond whether its ethically sourced from Canada or in somewhere else.

2) Patronize lab grown diamonds it display the same chemical component and optical properties as natural diamonds. Lab diamonds are grown in high-temperature, high-pressure chambers that reproduce the same conditions in the earth’s crust. The result is a carbon atoms arranged in the structure of diamond crystal compare to natural diamond it can take a million years before it formed to our desired size. Lab diamonds usually cost about 30 percent less than natural diamonds of same quantity and quality. It is important to know that there’s a big difference as well between lab created diamonds and diamond simulants, such as *cubic zirconia and *moissanite as explained below.

3) Searching for a vintage cut diamond can also help you avoid financing present or future bloody conflicts and human rights abuses around the world. Diamonds that were cut over half a decade ago still have the chance of having been originally mined in inhumane conditions, but are far less likely to finance current conflicts.

4) The idea that diamonds have always been an eternal symbol of love and marriage is largely a marketing ploy created by DeBeers, which they artificially decreases the diamond supply in the market increase its demand in prices.

5) Buy from jewelers that has a commitment to ethical sourcing of diamond - private groups are proactive in funding organizations which is working to support small-scale miners around the world.

diamond, moissanite, and cubic zirconia.
*Moissanite is one of the best faux diamonds that exist. Discovered in 1893,it is made of naturally occurring silicon carbide and is almost as hard as real diamond in its Mohs scale of 9.5 whereas diamond is 10 Mohs.

*Cubic zirconia started being produced in 1976 because of its diamond-like qualities, low cost, and overall durability. Cubic zirconia is a mineral that is used as a diamond simulant and is widely synthesized. It has a Mohs scale of 8.5 its current price can be vary from US$30 per 2 carat.
